KENYA HOSTS AFRICAN YOUTH CONFERENCE

Wildiley Barroca, young African leader, development actor and with extensive international experience in public youth policies, participates in the African Youth Conference on 'The youth perspective on conservation in Africa' which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from the 22nd to May 24, 2019.

The event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Regional Office for Africa aims to create a platform for young African leaders to exchange ideas and initiatives on nature conservation, as well as discuss and issue a statement of obligation and commitment to the ideas of Youth in 'New Deal for Nature and People', which will be presented at the AWF Annual Conference by some Youth representatives to world leaders.

As a notable and inspiring young African with a leadership career in the most diverse youth platforms worldwide, namely the World Youth Parliament for Water, the National Youth Network for Forests in Central Africa, and the Pan-African Youth Union, of which he was Advisor for Communication and Public Relations and Vice-President for 6 years with the African Union, Wildiley Barroca is invited by WWF Africa to participate in the Conference and speak to young people about environmental and nature conservation policies within the framework of the Union's Agenda 2063 Africa and the African Youth Charter.

The African leader will advocate for the declaration and other instruments of African youth to be appropriated by African leaders and consequently by the youth, so that together the desired dream of all Africans can be achieved, 'the Africa we want'.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) aims with this event to create a New Deal for Nature and People (ND4NP) in order to convince global policymakers to put young people on a sustainable path in the next decade. With the help of partners, WWF wants to create opportunities for young Africans between the ages of 18 and 35, contributing to a sustainable future for the continent.

Still on the sidelines of this meeting, young African leaders will be called upon to draw up an action plan to boost conservation, as well as the joint drafting of a declaration on the participation of young Africans in ND4NP to be presented at the conference in Mombassa, Kenya.

WWF Africa recognizes the need to bring these young environmentalists together annually to provide a space for them to engage and find tangible solutions for ND4NP. This would be accomplished through a Youth Conference that will bring together diverse young people to generate ideas and actions for a more sustainable planet.

The results of the youth conference will be taken to the AWF Annual Conference in Mombasa later this June, and will carry over into the next youth conference, where we hope to create a vibrant movement of motivated and driven young people driving conservation with us and for own account in Africa, while we look for platforms for them to present their passion on the network and in other partner NGOs, highlighted Wildiley Barroca to our editors.
